Naked Heart’s has a secondary mission of living the question “What is Matriarchy?” When you ask people about matriarchy, they usually envision a structure where you take the man out of the position at the top and put in a woman. But that’s not matriarchy, that’s feminist patriarchy. It seems that the entire cultural memory of matriarchy has been washed from our bones. It is up to us to reinvent it.

I have no ideas what matriarchy looks like either, but I am willing and eager to live the question, if just for a week in the desert. I have had some clues to what may be possible in matriarchy through a glimpse I have had of a couple of relationships. These are the relationships of some friends of mine. In each, the woman is way into her feminine in a way that she manifests like crazy. Literally, she wakes up some morning with an idea and in the next couple days she has started a business around it and in three weeks it is profitable. That all sounds great, except that she is doing it ALL the time. Without someone to follow her around and ground in this massive act of creation, it all dissolves again. The men around her do just that. They run and expand these businesses. They deal with the details, run interference with the masculine world, and keep a lid on things. This allows her to do what she does best— manifest.

I am suspicious that this is a defining element of matriarchy, manifestation. What would it look like to have small social groups or even entire societies that are self aware of their own powers of manifestation. I am eager to try this out in the desert, but why wait to start in August, let’s start now. There are various things that this camp needs and some very specific things that some camp members need.
