DanceMats

Dance Mats

Both Camp Contact and Naked Heart use interlocking padded dance mats extensively. We use them in our common shade area for acroyoga and lounging. We use them in our workshop dome to facilitated seated workshops. Eventually we will have our own shaded outdoor dance floor built of dance mats.

Dance mats are VERY easy to assemble once you understand how they go together. Here are some illustrative images:

Four mats connected

Each mat has an orientation. It really doesn't matter what side is up, but it does matter what direction the "spade" is pointing. Once you lay down the first mat, all the other mats must have their spade pointing in the same direction.

Easy. Once you have the entire surface complete, you can easily move it afterwards by lifting an edge and shaking it to get some air under the mat. You can then use that cushion of air to float it wherever you want.

It is very important when uninstalling the mats to "unzip" them by lifting one corner and pushing or holding down the consecutive corner. Never yank or pull mats away from each other laterally. If this isn't clear, ask someone who knows, how to "unzip" them.

There is a very special technique for installing square mats in a dome. We haven't done it with our mats yet, but when we do we will write it up here.

CAUTION: We have 2 different styles of mats in our collection. One has swoop curves and the other is a bit more angular. they cannot be intermixed. We expect that we will use the angular ones in the dome.
