RiceCookerDirections

This is new for 2018 and we do not have any experience using these on playa, so these directions are a best guess of how we will do this.

In general, the way rice cookers work is that you add a certain number of "cups" of rice to the main pot and then fill with water to the line that is equivalent to the number of cups. I use quotes on "cups" because the lines a re calibrated for use with a special cup that come with the cooker. In general, that cup is equal to 3/4 of one of our measuring cups.

After the water has been added, you turn it on and it automatically turns itself off once the rice is cooked.

We have 2 rice cookers. One will be used for white rice and the other for brown rice. This will give people the option of choosing which they want.

When making rice, measure the quantity of rice you intend to cook into a large pot. Rinse twice with water. This is very important for preventing sticky rice. Line the rice cooker pot with a rice napkin. The napkin prevents sticking and makes clean up much easier. add water to the appropriate line. Fold the napkin over the top of the rice, put the lid on and depress the cook button. Always check that there is plenty of propane in the cylinder before cooking.

When the cook button clicks to the off position, allow the rice to finish steaming for 15 minutes.

When cooking brown rice, you may want to add an extra 8 oz. of water, it seems to need it.
