Communal Space Maintenance

Time frame: 6am - 4pm

Duration: 2 hours

Description: This is an all day, now and then, duty of maintaining mindfulness about clutter in our common spaces. First sweep is best started early in the morning before camp members take over the spaces. These spaces are: the Chill Dome, the dining/dance mat area under the shade, the Sexayurt and the shower.

Chill Dome: Put all pillows to the side. Put stray items in Lost and Found, and generally tidy up as you see fit.

Dance Mats: Round up stray dishes and take to the dish washing station, scrape the food into compost and stack the dishes (you don't need to wash them). Put stray items in Lost and Found. Move half the chairs and tables and sweep those mats. Move everything to the clean side and sweep the remainder of the mats. Tidy up around the hand wash station. Replenish hand wash supplies if needed.

Sex-A-Yurt: If it is open, take a quick peek inside to see that it hasn't been left a wreck and that there are enough massage sheets available. Dirty sheets go to the burn barrel.

Shower: Search for moop on and around the shower platform. Take items left behind to the lost and found (make sure soap containers are shut tight so they don't leak in the box). Check for any soapy messes that others might slip on. Fill empty water bags. You shouldn't have to do this often, as shower users are supposed to fill bags they empty, but people forget.

If you see a need to vacuum the Chill dome or Sexayurt: Note about the vacuum: Playa dust is very fine and it easily plugs vacuum filters. If you feel that the vacuum is ineffective and not picking up, you probably need to clean the filter. The filter in the Hoover vacuum is a reusable filter. Unzip the bag compartment and gently pull the filter out. Over a trash can, remove the sealing clip from the dust bag and empty the contents. Take the bag to an area away from camp and beat the shit out of it to dislodge all the dust on the inside surface of the bag. Re- assemble and install. IMPORTANT!! make sure that when you restart the vacuum after a filter change that you do it OUTSIDE!!. The first minute of operation will blow dust EVERYWHERE!! If the vacuum still does not operate as it should check to see that the beater bar is spinning. If it is not, have David fix it. There are spare belts in the bag compartment.
