Ice Run

Time frame: 9 - 11:00 am is preferable so kitchen has ice for the lunch berry coolers.

Arctica is open 9am to 6pm all week and 9am to noon on Labor day. Pre-opening day Arctica is open Thur thru Sun, noon to 6pm. They sell bags of block ice and crushed ice. The price and bag sizes change a bit each year.

Duration: about 2 hours depending upon the wait in line

Description: This involves getting camp member orders for ice and their money, hopefully already in an envelope and on the sign up sheet. Also get $20+ from the cash kitty and ask kitchen lead how much and what kind they want if it's not on the order sheet. Walk or bike the dolly or cart over to Arctica at Center camp, where ice is sold. The early morning line is usually not so bad, it's fun to chat with people who are there, and there's always a party going on inside with dance music and energetic ice vendors. It helps to cover the load with a coat or blanket to minimize melting on the way. When you get back, load it all into the big white coolers near the kitchen, and put the kitchen ice in the cooler that is near the juicing station so that the lunch prep people can use it to keep the berries cold. We've tried having camp members put their name and order on an envelope with money or write on painters tape on the money and that label can be removed and put on the ice bags. Let us know what worked and what didn't. You can make notes on any job, shift or camp functioning in the camp notebook by the magnet board.

Note: This job changes a bit each day and each year.
